How you can help
The Old Town Hall now has Heritage Designation. Two floors have been restored and with Your Help we will continue until the entire building has regained its former glory.
Artifact Donations:
The Glace Bay Heritage Museum collects artifacts that relate to the history, culture, and people of Glace Bay and surrounding areas. The museum relies primarily on individual donations from private citizens. Although we appreciate all inquiries, not everything can be collected. Storing, conserving and exhibiting collections is costly and requires considerable investment. It is important that only those artifacts that can be used for display, education and study are collected. For this reason the museum often decides not to accept items that are offered. To ensure that the right things are collected, a ‘collecting policy’ has been prepared that gives guidance to curatorial staff as to what should be collected and what should not. If you think you have something of value that you would like to see displayed in the museum, please drop in to share your ideas with us or contact us for more information.
MONETARY DONATIONS:
Without the support of generous people in this community, the Old Town Hall would cease to exist. With the exception of summer students, volunteers keep the Museum operating. Funding comes from Museum donations, memorials, grants and fundraising events. Any and all monetary donations are greatly appreciated and contribute to the day to day operation of the Museum and the ongoing restoration of this heritage building. If you would like to make a donation, please contact us for more information.
Remember that all donations over $10.00 are eligible for a tax receipt!
For more information on purchasing a memorial card, please contact us.
Unable to Donate Financially?
If you can’t afford to contribute financially, or you just want to participate in a more hands-on way in addition to a monetary donation, you might consider a “A Gift in Kind”, i.e. building materials, labour, furnishings, exhibit items, or your time as a volunteer. Please use the JOIN US button.
Used books
Located on the ground floor the used-books room has a large variety of previously loved books for our visitors to enjoy. All money raised in the sale of these used volumes goes directly to the upkeep of the museum. If you have any used books that you wish to donate to the Book Room, we would be more than happy to find them a new home.
